Amazon Expands Global Warehousing: What FBA Sellers Need to Know

Sellers can now store expiration-dated products at Amazon’s Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD) facilities in China before replenishing US FBA. The condition is that inventory arrives with at least 365 days of shelf life. Amazon announced the change in Seller Central.

What Qualifies

The update covers these categories at GWD facilities in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Ningbo:

  • Beauty
  • Baby Products
  • Health and Personal Care
  • Other eligible categories

Vitamins, supplements, meltables, and several other product types remain excluded. Check Amazon’s full exclusion list before booking.

Two Shelf Life Checkpoints

Amazon applies a shelf-life check at two stages:

Stage

Minimum Remaining Shelf Life

Entering GWD

365 days

Replenishing to US FBA

180 days

As stored units approach the 180-day limit, Amazon sends an email notice. Sellers should plan their replenishment timing around that window so stock doesn’t age out in the warehouse.

Using the program requires onboarding to Amazon Global Logistics (AGL). Shipments then follow a six-step workflow in Seller Central.

China-based storage can smooth out replenishment, but expiration-dated goods leave little room for delays. A 365-day entry requirement against a 180-day exit requirement leaves roughly six months of usable storage, so match your order quantities to your actual sell-through rate. Sellers should also confirm their product type isn’t excluded before booking.
