Google’s Universal Cart, previewed earlier this year, has officially launched in time for the holiday shopping season. Google announced the rollout, which gives shoppers one place to collect items from different stores.
What Shoppers Can Do
The Universal Cart lets shoppers:
- Save products from multiple retailers in one cart
- Track price and inventory changes
- Spot hidden savings and points
- Check out through Google Pay
What Merchants Get
Merchants using (Universal Commerce Protocol) UCP-powered checkout can turn on cart transfer, which sends shoppers to their own site. They also get checkout-flow insights that show how well their products appear in AI-powered searches. Details are in Google’s launch post.
Every feature here depends on accurate product data, so the feed is the place to start. Audit your Merchant Center feed now, then test the new checkout flow before holiday traffic arrives. Errors found in November will cost more than ones caught this week.
